WHO ARE WE?
Reach Out is a student-based organization whose sole purpose is to 
connect the students of Central Michigan University to the Catholic Church. 
Reach Out acts as a liaison between St. Mary University Parish and the 
Central Michigan University community by providing opportunities 
for students to gather for fun and faith-deepening activities. 
These activities are divided among three committees of Reach Out: 
the Social Committee, the Prayer and Music Committee, 
and the Knowledge Committee.

Reach Out also sponsors the annual Ash Wednesday service. 
This is a wonderful celebration and not only includes students, 
but also faculty and staff at Central Michigan University,
and permanent residents of Mt. Pleasant and 
the surrounding area.

Under the guidance of the Pastoral Team and the Co-Facilitators, 
 Reach Out continually strives to pursue 
a healthy relationship with the university and the students, 
as well as deepen our spirituality and faith.

Reach Out meets one hour a week, three times a month. 
Our meetings are divided into two categories: business and discussion. 
The business meetings are a way for the rest of the group 
and the team to find out what is going on within the group. 
The discussion meetings consist of a group-wide discussion 
of various topics, such as abortion, building the Kingdom of God, 
and spirituality, among others.

SOCIAL COMMITTEE
This committee is responsible for setting up activities 
for the student parish that will promote fun and entertainment, 
as well as a chance for students to become involved with the parish. 
The Social Committee has sponsored events such as a trip to the pumpkin patch, “Nachos and Networking,” and “Bowling and Pizza at the SAC.”

PRAYER & MUSIC COMMITTEE
This committee is responsible for providing opportunities for students to 
deepen their faith through prayer and music. 
 

KNOWLEDGE COMMITTEE
This committee is responsible for the advertising of Reach Out 
and for choosing topics for the Reach Out discussion meetings. 
The Knowledge Committee also tries to bring knowledge 
to the student body and the parish as a whole 
by finding out what people want to know about the Catholic faith, 
and then expanding on those ideas or giving them to 
another group or the team to work on and address. 
This committee hopes to redesign the current church bulletin in the future.

BECOMING A MEMBER
New members are accepted into Reach Out in May and, 
if spaces are available, December. 
To become a member of Reach Out, fill out an application, 
which can be found on the Reach Out Bulletin Board in the lounge of St. Mary's, 
and hand it into the office by the stated date. 
A Reach Out member will contact you to set up an interview to be held 
with members of Reach Out and the pastoral team. It’s that easy! 
Reach Out is limited to 20 members, at the group's discretion. 
Members of Reach Out are required to attend an 
end-of-the-year picnic at the end of April and 
a two-day retreat in late-August or early-September.
