Students can Enthrone the Sacred Heart of Jesus in their dorm rooms or apartments!   This new program enables students to participate in a centuries old devotion to the Heart of Jesus.

Simply sign up for your image of choice after Masses a St. Mary's beginning in August 2008.  Fr. Will will be in touch with you about setting up a time.

Enthronement involves a brief prayer, a sprinkling of Holy Water, and a placing of the image on a wall or other suitable place in your room or apartment.  The tradition of Enthronement comes from the ninth of the "twelve promises of the Sacred Heart," which states: "I will bless the homes in which the image of My Sacred Heart shall be exposed and honored."  In this spirit we enthrone the Heart of Jesus in our homes and rooms to remind us that God revealed his love for us in the human heart of His diving son Jesus.  Jesus' Heart is a Heart of infinite compassion and strength.  The Heart of Jesus is the Heart of the Eucharist, the place where we receive the blessings of God.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church affirms this devotion:

“He has loved us all with a human heart. For this reason, the Sacred Heart of Jesus, pierced by our sins and for our salvation, ‘is quite rightly considered the chief sign and symbol of that. . . love with which the divine Redeemer continually loves the eternal Father and all human beings’ without exception.” (CCC #478)

“The process of conversion and repentance was described by Jesus in the parable of the prodigal son, the center of which is the merciful father: the fascination of illusory freedom, the abandonment of the father's house; the extreme misery in which the son finds himself after squandering his fortune; his deep humiliation at finding himself obliged to feed swine, and still worse, at wanting to feed on the husks the pigs ate; his reflection on all he has lost; his repentance and decision to declare himself guilty before his father; the journey back; the father's generous welcome; the father's joy - all these are characteristic of the process of conversion. The beautiful robe, the ring, and the festive banquet are symbols of that new life - pure worthy, and joyful - of anyone who returns to God and to the bosom of his family, which is the Church. Only the Heart of Christ Who knows the depths of his Father's love could reveal to us the abyss of his mercy in so simple and beautiful a way.” (CCC #1439)

“The prayer of the Church venerates and honors the Heart of Jesus just as it invokes his most holy name. It adores the incarnate Word and his Heart which, out of love for men, he allowed to be pierced by our sins.”(CCC #2669)
